Last ten days of Ramadan

Updated: May 27, 2022

The last ten nights are among us, and they are the most sacred period of Ramadan. ‘This month has come to you, and in it, there is a night that is better than a thousand months. Whoever is deprived of it is deprived of all goodness, and no one is deprived of its goodness except one who is truly deprived.’

And if I had to pick ten days then these last ten days are also my favourite time in Ramadan. First of all how quick has Ramadan gone I remember just posting about the first ten days and now we are talking about the last, wow. A quote that comes to me ‘everything is a metaphor. Everything is a sign and contains a lesson. Don’t reflect on how quickly Ramadan came and went, without realising that this is a sign of how quickly this life will come and go’. Very true, right?!

The last ten nights are a special time to me because they offer a chance to become even closer to Allah SWT and insha’Allah to witness the blessed night of Laylatul-Qadr. The night of power. The night when the Qur’an was revealed and if we are lucky that Allah will bestow mercy and forgiveness on us sinners. ‘The precise night has not been mentioned but it has been said ‘search for Laylatul-Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan’.

These nights are where you really feel the all-encompassing love and mercy you feel from Him. You are in a constant state of worship- dhikr- with each word full of blessing and power which brings you closer to Him. You try to limit your time on social media and otherworldly distractions and immerse yourself in the recitation of the Holy Qur’an and the Seerah. It’s a time when you try to cram everything in to seek the blessings of the last holy nights of Ramadan. Getting up to pray Tahajjud, extending your prayers and time in sujood. Giving charity across the year is such a blessing but it’s doubled this month, especially during the last ten nights. Thanks to modern-day technology you can automate donations for the last ten nights so you seek the rewards of giving to charity. Charity no matter how small, with the right intentions can be such a big blessing and if you are in a position to give, you should give freely.

It’s a chance of renewal, believing that God will forgive your sins and will forgive all your misdeeds is such a liberating moment, last year I made a contract on the day of Arafah, just resolutions I made that I will commit to such as praying on time etc, this year I want to make a Laylatul-Qadr contract making resolutions which I hope in a years time I can come back to and tick of. This allows me another opportunity to connect with Islam and encourages me to keep the Ramadan momentum all year round insha’Allah. You don’t know if you will be able to see through next year’s Ramadan so these ten days savour every minute in Ibadah and make ample dua.

I pray we all make the most of these blessed nights, keep me in your dua’s.

With Salaam’s and Dua’s
