Recap #8/9

Hi Page Turners,

Welcome to another RECAP and the wrap up of the months of September and October.

Reading

The picture above is all the books that I read over September and October and below I will do a breakdown of what I read in each month and pick only my favourites which are predominantly four and five-star reads. If you have read any of the books mentioned click on the link to take you to my full review and leave a comment if you agree/disagree with my review and let me know your thoughts. I didn’t read as much in these two months because I have had a crazy and busy few weeks and in a little bit of a slump so I didn’t pick up any books as much as I did over the last few months but these are the ones I did.

It is also a RECAP of my favourite things over the two months and any highlights and recommendations I have to share with you all. Enjoy reading.

September 2024

Insomnia- Sarah Pinborough

This book has been on my list for quite a while and so I finally picked it up. To be honest it was a bit of a claustrophobic read in that it did make you tense and feel for the main character and kind of step into her shoes and the ending was satisfying. Review here- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4637207763

There are Rivers in the Sky- Elif Shafak

My favourite book of the year. You can read my full review for my thoughts on this amazing novel. However, you will not regret reading it because it is just beautiful, touching, moving, and wonderfully human. It follows three characters in three different eras, but they all connect because of water. I really enjoyed this one, and it has undoubtedly become one of my favourites of the year. Review here- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6832167937

Frantic- Katherine Howell

I listened to this as an audiobook and it was so gripping it is a story about a paramedic baby who has been kidnapped and an unravelling of family secrets, lies and tragedy. I loved listening to this and the ending of the last few chapters you did kind of know where it was going however such an enjoyable listen. Review here- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6854447717

What Remains- Wendy Walker

My favourite crime book of the year. This one again was such an edge-of-the-seat kind of read and it was just so mind-bending and clever the way the cat-and-mouse game played out. It was so interesting and kind of creepy oh how much knowledge is out there and how dark the author's mind is (lol) I enjoyed reading the book and getting to the end. Find my review here- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6869744355

Apples Never Fall- Liane Moriarty

Perhaps a little disappointing as it was more of a domestic rather than a thriller but a really good read. I love tennis so having this centered around tennis is amazing also at the same time I was watching the adaptation and have to say the book was better (of course). The ending was satisfying and all tied up quite nicely would read more by this author. Read my review here- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6886823441

Margaret Atwood- Burning Questions

This book has also been on my list for ages and I finally got around to it. A non-fiction collection of her essays, and lectures amongst others. It was a really good read loved learning about her craft how she came to writing and her influences. Read my review here- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4051730850

Message Deleted- K. L. Slater

Another thriller I liked was Message Deleted. I read this quite quickly which suggests that I enjoyed this one as it was such a page-turner. The characters were questionable and perhaps not the most likeable but I loved the plot and how they all interweve another satisfying ending. Read my review here- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6922973167

Remember Mr. Sharma- A. P. Firdaus

A book I was quite cynical about at the start but then grew on me. A fantastical/magical realism book about hidden histories and family relationships. Review here- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/6926112488

Embracing

Last RECAP  I set myself accountable and set myself a goal of getting into a consistent routine and a few other goals. I am proud of myself to say that I have stuck to that and have a consistent routine in which every day I show up for myself by eating healthy (without being too strict) and having a consistent workout routine. Now we are weeks away from 2025 my goal to accomplish for the next RECAP will be to review and realign goals, prioritise certain goals, and be more focused on obtaining these goals and obtaining them. I have embraced this new me and now I need to embrace these promises to myself which I will deliver.

What are your goals are you committed to do before the new year? Comment down below and what is on your to-do list before the end of the year and what is something you wish to take into the new year. Comment below so I can champion you and we can keep each other accountable.

Content

Molly Mae- Vogue interview- I love celebrity gossip and this piece that Molly Mae has done for Vogue is really interesting read all here- https://www.vogue.co.uk/article/molly-mae-british-vogue-interview

Now that I am working out I am obsessed with YouTube videos and seeing everyone’s workout routines and what they enjoy etc. but I came across this video of Roger Federer’s workout routine and just highlighted how much hard work, determination and passion he had for the sport and the work he put into it.

This report highlights Israel’s war crimes on the genocide in Gaza read here- hopeless starving and besieged. Read the full report here- https://www.hrw.org/report/2024/11/14/hopeless-starving-and-besieged/israels-forced-displacement-palestinians-gaza

I recently re-read (or listened to the audiobook) The Handmaid’s Tale and with no surprise sales are up after Trump was elected for the second time as president of the US- read the Guardian article here-

As a linguist lover always have a rabbit hole treasure to find videos like this- https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mey9EsOwhDo

Attracting

As the end of the year approaches I am ending it on a high and manifesting reviewing and renewing goals and with the power of laws of attraction starting the year as a new start to become an even stronger and better version of myself. This time next year I want to be writing that I achieved the goals I set for myself and that I am so proud of myself. It is not as glamorous or aesthetic as Pinterest and social media make out it is sweat, blood and tears literally. However, this is what makes us the better and strongest version of ourselves and I am ready for it. Here is to the hustle and grind of the next 12 months and may we all be living our goals.

Proud of/Planning

Like the A of this month's RECAP, I am also proud of myself for all that I have achieved this year and it is the time of the year to reflect on and write in those gratitude journals of how far we have come and grown. It is also time for planning and making the most of these last few weeks and taking advantage to end the year on a high and re-evaluate and make succinct goals for the year to come. Compared to last year I have a much better perspective on how to set goals and focus on a few rather than loads and that comes with planning and preparing so in these couple of weeks that is what I intend to do. Comment below on what your last few weeks look like what you are proud of and planning what you are looking forward to in the new year.
